5. Reach a broad audience
A lot of people are on Twitter. Like, a lot. And that number is still on the rise. Currently, Twitter has 328 million monthly active users (up 9 million from the previous quarter). And, as of 2016, 29.2% of U.S. social media users were on Twitter.
And a lot of your customers and patients are on Twitter, so it is a great way to have an impact on them. In fact, 41% of patients say that social media would affect their choice of doctor, hospital, or medical facility.
Also, did you know that journalists make up 24.6% of Twitter verified accounts? They are on Twitter not only to disseminate news, but also to sniff out leads. You should be announcing all your company news not only through traditional press releases, but through Twitter as well.
4. Keep up with the competition
Of course you shouldn’t do something just because everyone else is doing it, but 92% of companies Tweet at least once a day, 42% Tweet 1-5 times a day, and 19% Tweet 6-10 times a day.
You have to get into the conversation to be heard. Increase your share of voice in the market by speaking via another channel. You can also benchmark yourself against other players in the industry, and learn what works and doesn’t from their public content and interactions.

Even if people don’t have an account, they can still see your message. Tweets come up in Google search results. In fact, 500 million people visit the site each month without logging in. Your reach is even further than your follower base.

There’s nothing the healthcare industry likes more than a conference! There is a ubiquitous trend at conferences now to live tweet. Conference leaders create a hashtag, and attendees (both in person and virtual) use it to connect and get information - before, during, and after the conference. In addition to being great for networking and education, it’s a fantastic marketing opportunity, particularly for the healthcare community.
